Voices of the Maya
Voices of the Maya is a project which aims to preserve indigenous Maya culture and language in the voice of the Maya themselves.
It started as research as part of Charlottes Masters degree in anthropology and has now grown into an amazing lifelong adventure. Charlotte has now been working with the Maya for nearly a decade.
In 2019 Charlotte was named the Scientific Exploration Societies Rivers Foundation Explorer. This was for an expedition with the Maya to create educational resources in Q'eqchi' and Mopan, explore caves for evidence of ancient Maya habitation; educate the wider community about their ancestors and oral hygiene.
The expedition has since developed into a long term project which aims to create educational material in Q'eqchi' and Mopan Maya.
You can join the experience by joining the Voices of the Maya field school 2025.
