The Voices of the Maya Anthropological field school is a once in a lifetime opportunity where attendees will be given the chance to learn and practice conducting two-week ethnographic fieldwork with Q’eqchi’ and Mopan in Belize, Central America.
The field school is for adults aged over 18. It is aimed at those with little to no experience in anthropology and field research. People who want to do something a little different but can’t commit to long term study or perhaps those who just want a new adventure or want a change in direction.
The course will predominantly be taught with and within a Mayan community in the Toledo district of Belize, surrounded by tropical rainforest. Additionally, there will be 2 hrs of pre fieldwork and 2 hrs of post fieldwork training, this will be conducted online.
During the fieldwork you will be living with a Mayan homestay family undertaking training relevant to the course and experiencing traditional Maya way of life. There will be opportunities for excursions within the surrounding area.

Learning Ojectives

Gain knowledge of the key concepts of anthropology and ethnographic research.

Understand how to design and carry out an ethnographic research project.

Develop skills to be able to conduct research in an ethical and appropriate manner.

Demonstrate the ability to conduct ethnographic research using a variety of key methods and to analyse the results of that research.
